Which Tablescape Are You?

There are so many details to consider when designing your wedding reception, but ultimately, it all boils down to one thing: The Tablescape. With guests gathering around the table, eating, toasting, and celebrating, in practical terms, the table is the main focus of the reception (other than the newlyweds, of course!) Setting a table is an age old way to make people feel welcome and set the tone of the evening. It is also a fantastic opportunity to showcase your personal style and tastes as a couple.

If you aren’t inspired by the tablewares your venue is offering, where do you look, how do you choose? We aren’t all tablescape designers! To help, the event designers at  Mad Bash have created this delightful quiz for you to discover your tablescape style, and at the end, have created different looks made entirely from our favourite tableware rentals at  Table Tales, with help from the incredible photographers at  Mango Studios, paper goods from the talented  Its Okay Studio and magical florals from  The Flower 597.

You’ll need a couple things before you get started on the quiz. First- grab a pen and paper or your phone to track your answers. You want to ensure you are tracking which letter you choose- like this: 1a. 2b, and so on. At the end, you’ll tally your letters to find your tablescape. Remember these?! It’s time to tally your answers. Add up how many A’s, B’s, C’s, D’s and E’s you got. Then, read on to see your table!

MOSTLY A’S: ETHEREAL ROMANCE

You love a space that is light, airy, and dreamlike. You are attracted to soft colours, flowing fabrics, and delicate details that evoke a sense of whimsy and magic. To create this look, we used Table Tales’ classic Sonoma Linen tablecloth in Sage, their Chiffon Runner in Ivory, and their Blanco dinnerware in Gold. For florals, Flowers 597 used classic beauties like roses, dahlias, tulips, and baby’s breath. You can use fairy lights and candles to create a soft romantic ambiance. You may also want to include some vintage or bohemian pieces to your tablescape as a nod to the past. Overall, the ethereal romance tablescape creates a serene and peaceful atmosphere that transports the guest to a truly romantic wedding.

MOSTLY B’S: BOHO BABE

You love a tablescape that is eclectic and free-spirited, and enjoy a mix of patterns, textures, and colours, with an emphasis on natural materials like wood and rattan, and a warm and earthy colour palette. In a bohemian tablescape, there may be a mix of vintage and modern elements, with mismatched plates, vibrant glassware, and natural elements like flowers or branches creating a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. To create this look, we used Table Tales’ Woven Floral Placemat and Monaco Goblet in dark blue atop the Turmeric Sonoma Linen tablecloth. For decor like table names and vases, you can draw inspiration from past adventures and use mementos as a way to create a tablescape that is unique and personal.

MOSTLY C’S: MODERN MINIMALIST

You love a tablescape that is sleek and streamlined, with decor that is characterized by a simple or monochromatic colour palette, often consisting of black, white, or neutral tones. In a modern minimalist tablescape, there may be a focus on geometric shapes, understated centrepieces, and tablewares with clean lines with minimal ornamentation. To create this look, we combined Table Tales’ Cemento dinnerware with their black Harper flatware, and used their stunning Ribbed Coupe and Checkered Water Glass to add some sleek interest. Overall, the modern minimalist space is cool, calm, simple, and uncluttered.

MOSTLY D’S: WHIMSICAL WONDER

You love a tablescape that is playful and imaginative, characterized by bold and unexpected combinations of colours, patterns, and textures. The whimsical wonder tablescape is a celebration of the quirky and unconventional, with unique and often handmade items like DIY art or vintage pieces used as decor. To create this look, we combined Table Tales’ Vintage Floral dinner plate with the Antique White Juliet Charger Plate, and topped it off with the Aegean Blue Velvet Napkin for an energetic, romantic feel. We then added their delightful and completely whimsical Iridescent glassware for an unexpected surprise. You may also wish to use unique accessories like novelty-shaped salt and pepper shakers or colourful place cards. Overall, the whimsical style is a celebration of creativity and individuality, creating a tablescape that is joyful and full of personality.

MOSTLY E’S: RETRO ROMANCE

You love a retro tablescape that evokes a sense of nostalgia for the past. You love the designs and aesthetics of the 50s, 60s, or 70s, and are inspired by the colour palettes that were distinctive of those eras. Kitchen kitsch like checkered tablecloths, bubble glassware, and thrifted vases makes you giddy with delight. To create this look, we combined Table Tables’ Floral Sketch plates with the Fringe Charger Mat in natural pink, on top of the Red Sonoma Linen tablecloth for a gorgeous ‘granny chic’ feel. Pair with a homemade pie for a completely heart-warming special occasion! You can use vintage posters and other thrift store finds for decor like table numbers and place names. Don’t forget that you won’t find much plastic or modern materials in a retro tablescape, since those materials weren’t common back then! Overall, the Retro Romance style is a celebration of the past, creating a tablescape that is both nostalgic and stylish.
